Crescent Beach update | October 9

Crescent Beach is putting on quite a show today. High waves are washing across the entire stretch of sand in front of me, with sea foam floating everywhere. Apparently, the Gulf decided our beach needed a bubble bath. 🫧

Yesterday’s exposed rocks and erosion near Point of Rocks were striking enough. Today, it’s the reach of the waves that really gets your attention.

Hoping this is the grand finale, because we’d all appreciate a little less drama and a little more beach. Stay safe, everyone, and give those waves plenty of room! 💙

Every Sunday, about an hour before sunset, the sound of drums begins to carry across Siesta Beach. People gather around the circle, dancers step into the middle, and for a little while, strangers share the same rhythm.

The tradition dates to 1996, when Sarasota artist David Gittens gathered a small group of friends to drum on the beach for the spring equinox. What began as a celebration among friends grew into one of Siesta Key’s best-known Sunday rituals. That’s part of its charm - you can come to play, dance, or simply watch the sun go down.
