Today I attended a joint sales meeting with agents from McLean, Arlington, and Fairfax at Prosperity Home Mortgage’s headquarters in Fairfax.
We had the opportunity to meet with their leadership team, ask questions, and discuss what is happening in today’s mortgage market.
One of the biggest takeaways: don’t count on a dramatic drop in interest rates. While no one can predict rates with certainty, the general expectation is that rates will remain relatively stable rather than significantly decline.
Another important discussion focused on mortgage strategies. Many buyers automatically assume a 15-year mortgage is the best option. While every situation is different, I personally like the flexibility of a 30-year mortgage. A lower monthly payment can provide peace of mind and better cash flow. If your budget allows, you can always make additional principal payments to pay off the loan faster. Later, when enough principal has been paid down, you may even be able to recast the loan and reduce your monthly payment.
We also learned about lender programs designed to provide additional confidence during the home-buying process, including an on-time closing guarantee.
If you’re thinking about buying a home and want to explore your financing options, I’d be happy to connect you with trusted lenders who will take great care of you and help you find the best solution for your situation.
