The life you want requires focus, discipline, consistency, and patience.
I came into 2023 scared. I mean SCARED. I was six months into running my own business and wasn’t sure I wouldn’t lose everything, including my own house. I left my job in education management in June of 2022, depleted most of my savings, and when I met with my tax guy in February, I learned a valuable lesson about being an LLC turned S Corp. You still have to pay taxes. The ANXIETY!! Boy, did I have to HUSTLE this year. I had a lot of conversations with my mom, the universe, and my deceased father, and in the end, I increased production by 30% — in a year that too many people speculated would end in a recession.
To become the person you know you can be, you have to get frustrated with every other version of yourself. You have to stop playing small. You have to cut out the noise and get quiet. You have to get punched in face to build a strong jaw.
When you’re following your dreams, you might lose money and you might lose people and you might learn lessons that hurt your feelings. I mean some of them will be BRUTAL. Be open to learning them anyway. And be humble enough to recognize that the more you learn, the more you will realize how much you do not know.
To have faith in the middle of the storm is truly the hardest thing you’ll ever have to do. I am not very good at it yet. I hope you have a mother and a daughter and friends like mine who love you enough to tell you when you’re way, WAY off course and who will remind you as many times as you need reminding that growth happens slowly — and then all of a sudden — and that everything is temporary, the losses and the wins.
Simple is not simple. It’s ten steps back, and two steps forward. But take a look at how far we’ve come. What a year we had. We didn’t quit and we’re ready to DO more, BE more, and GIVE more in 2024. ❤️
