JaneEllen McLaughlin Saums, Realtor with Corcoran McEnearney There is no such thing as a “past” client. Even well after the transaction has closed, you can always rely on me for assistance. I received my B.A.

JaneEllen is a Northern Virginia REALTOR® specializing in the Vienna Metro corridor — serving buyers and sellers in Arlington, Falls Church, Annandale, McLean, Vienna, Oakton, and Fairfax. My goal is to provide every client with outstanding service and resources. I care deeply that you’re making a large financial and emotional decision when buying or selling a home, and I am here to support and gu

ide you through every step. Having relocated many times over the years (with a family and two cats!), I’m extremely sensitive to the joys and challenges of a life-changing move. A Jackson, Michigan native, I first settled in Northern Virginia in 1986. As a Foreign Service spouse, I also lived in Oman, the Netherlands, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. My residency in apartments, condos, townhomes and single-family homes has given me first-hand insight on the quality of life every property type provides. In 2000, I moved back to Northern Virginia permanently. I have developed an intimate knowledge of its diverse communities, and thanks to my teaching background I always educate my clients on the area’s market and housing options. I also explain the myriad of steps and decisions they will encounter in the real estate process; plus I know the right questions to ask and am a great listener. I am very detail-oriented, proactive, patient, and persistent in getting answers or solving problems. Plus, I’m adept at figuring out what people understand, and know how to explain what they don’t. I am a member of Fairfax Master Naturalists, the Audubon Society of Northern Virginia, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the National Wildlife Federation and the Nature Conservancy. I love the county, regional and national parks that are in our area, and believe they are some of Northern Virginia’s greatest assets. from Ohio Wesleyan University in Zoology and my M.A. in Journalism from The Ohio State University. I have taught science for Fairfax County Public Schools for eight years working with at-risk students. My two children grew up attending the County’s public schools, so I also have a parent’s perspective. I am very passionate about the environment and have earned the National Association of Realtors’ GREEN designation. I am active in my church, located in Vienna, Virginia, and love hiking and kayaking. I also enjoy gardening, so much so that I have turned my small front lawn into a certified wildlife habitat!

Not even severe weather could stop this wonderful community event!

Although we couldn't gather in person at our McLean office, bestselling author Thrity Umrigar joined us virtually from Cleveland for an engaging and insightful morning discussion.

Guests enjoyed a short reading from her newest novel, Missing Sam, along with a thoughtful conversation about her writing journey, (12 novels!) creative process, and experiences as a journalist and Harvard Nieman Fellow.

Missing Sam is a compelling and thought-provoking read that I highly recommend. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this virtual author event such a success!

The Metro DC housing market took a modest step back this week, with total contract activity down 3.8% compared to the same period last year. But the numbers tell a more balanced story than the headline suggests.

While most jurisdictions saw slight declines, average days on market remained remarkably stable at approximately 33 days, signaling that buyer demand continues to hold steady.

For Northern Virginia, the bigger story remains Prince William County, which continues to lead the region with year-to-date contract activity up 10.2% compared to last year. Across the market, buyers are moving thoughtfully, sellers are adjusting expectations, and homes are still going under contract.

This week's data feels less like a slowdown and more like a brief pause in what has otherwise been a steady 2026 market.

My first guided tour of the season with Fairfax Master Naturalists was a huge success, helped along by a beautiful evening on Kane’s Creek. We saw (and heard) an incredible variety of wildlife, including bald eagles ranging from nestlings to adults, ospreys, Great Blue Herons, a turkey vulture, Tree Swallows, Red-winged Blackbirds, Eastern Wood-Pewees, geese, damselflies, dragonflies, a Northern Watersnake, and several species of frogs.

A special thank you to my co-leader, Pete, for all of his help and expertise throughout the tour!

Mason Neck State Park offers guided morning, evening, and twilight kayak tours throughout the season. For more information, contact the park at 703-339-2385.

I spent an incredible three days at Mason Neck State Park where I took the ACA’s Community Paddlesports Leader course! As a paddle guide at the Park, it was amazing to dive deep into the essential on-the-water skills and real-life scenarios that leaders face when guiding groups.

The weather was absolutely gorgeous, but with those cool water temps and a steady breeze, the wetsuit was definitely a lifesaver!

Nature absolutely put on a show for us while we were out there. Just some of our incredible wildlife sightings:
• Bald Eagles & Ospreys
• Cormorants & Kingfishers
• Tree Swallows & Red-Winged Blackbirds
• Zebra Swallowtail Butterflies
• ...and 7 Great Northern Snakes — right at our launch site!

A few days spent learning new skills, guiding on the water, and experiencing the local wildlife firsthand is always time well spent.

One of the most common questions we hear a lot is: How do you sell your current home and buy the next one at the same time? 🏡

It can feel overwhelming, but with the right plan, it’s very doable!

👉 The key is understanding your numbers early, preparing your home properly, and having a clear strategy for timing the transition. For many sellers, that includes negotiating a short rent-back period to create some flexibility. Every situation is a little different, which is why having both a plan and a backup plan makes all the difference.

If you’re thinking about making a move and want to talk through what this could look like for you, we’re always happy to help.
