The D.C. area has a vibrant history of German-American immigration, dating to even earlier than the beginning of Oktoberfest as an agricultural fair in 1811 in Bavaria. Since colonial times, Germans made settlements across Maryland—most notably at Frederick (then Fredericktown) and around Baltimore. Towards the turn of the twentieth century, the Foggy Bottom area in Washington, D.C. grew to be a bustling industrial center where many workers were of German descent.

TOMORROW-
On Friday, following a private arrival ceremony for family, congressional colleagues and invited guests will be followed by a public viewing beginning at 1 p.m. McCain will be the 13th senator to lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda.

Members of the public may begin lining up Friday morning on First Street, NW/SW, between Constitution and Independence Avenues, or Second Street, NE/SE, between East Capitol Street and Independence Avenue, SE. Individuals should be prepared for the weather since they will be standing outside before entering the building. Note: no flowers, sealed envelopes, or other offerings/tokens will be allowed into the U.S. Capitol or Capitol Visitor Center.

There will be street closures around the U.S. Capitol in preparation for the public viewing.

So THIS is happening. I don't get it....who are these people? My son told me he saw this gang of "bikers" yesterday. I don't know, but this weirds me out.

Large groups of ATVs and dirt bikes were spotted Sunday snarling traffic in several locations including Georgetown, Washington Circle and the Wharf.
