It's a huge bummer how few high school courses exist that teach personal finance; learning how to manage your money is one of the most important life skills you could develop. If you have no idea where to even start, then JL Collins is the guy for you. What started out as notes and messages to his daughter turned into an acclaimed blog, dozens of podcast interviews, and several books. The one that changed my outlook on my finances is "The Simple Path to Wealth." It honestly could not be more common-sense; JL Collins helped me feel like financial independence might be possible. :) I highly recommend this book if you want your money to stop controlling your life.

For most Americans, paying for a living space is the most expensive thing you do on a month-to-month basis. There are several strategies to bring that cost down, but my personal favorite (and one I’ve been utilizing since I bought my first house) is house-hacking! Check out one of my favorite sources on financial independence, Coach Carson, as he breaks it down for the curious in “7 Tips for Renting Out Your House.”

Coach Carson also dabbles in investing outside of real estate. Here’s a link to his video, “How to Invest Soberly When the Market Seems Drunk.” It’s timely, to say the least! Investing is complicated, but becomes easier the more you look into it. Start here!
