A BluRay is not a BluRay?
BluRay players are not created equally. We install hundreds of players each year and we hear all the complaints for the models people don't enjoy. Thankfully most of those less fortunate models were selected by customers or pre-existing. We figured out a long time ago that once you find a good brand you stick with it.
In order to select a player you either need to talk to someone who knows what that are talking about, read a bunch of otherwise worthless reviews, or trial and error. But you need to see it in action to know the full story. The lessor models have obvious flaws. The picture is poor, slow to read disks, take forever to boot up.
Samsung, my otherwise #2 is a declining brand in our experience. They still make good units but not any of the units under $150. Most, if not all, that I have seen in the past 6 months function out of the ordinary or less than expected.
Sony, long been our #1, remains in the top spot. We have sold them exclusively for nearly 3 years, and no issues, zero. It's remarkable. Even the entry level units under $100 are solid. I would still advise against any brands under $80 model, but just under $100 from Sony is still a good bang for the buck.
If you want 4k they are still reasonable at $350. And they are better all around.
