LIBOR joins in mourning the loss of our friend, colleague, and past President, Susan Helsinger.

For more than three decades, Susan was a respected REALTOR®, business leader, philanthropist, author, and advocate whose impact reached far beyond the real estate profession. A LIBOR member since 1994, she dedicated countless hours to advancing our industry, serving in numerous leadership roles before becoming President of the Association in 2021. Her commitment to advocacy, professionalism, and service helped shape LIBOR and inspired generations of REALTOR® leaders.

Susan’s resilience and compassion defined her life’s work. Following the heartbreaking loss of her son, Jason, she founded The Jason Gruen Foundation, pioneering pediatric cardiac screenings across Long Island and helping establish Children’s Heart Centers that have forever changed countless lives. She was also active in numerous civic and nonprofit organizations and shared her personal journey of perseverance and hope through her memoir, Glass Half Full. Her commitment to community service earned her some of the highest honors in real estate, including LIBOR’s Lifetime Achievement Award and REALTOR® Spirit Award, NYSAR’s Community Service Award, and NAR’s renowned Good Neighbor Award.

Susan led with grace, strength, and a lifelong dedication to helping others, both within the real estate profession and throughout the communities she served. Our deepest condolences go out to Susan’s family, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives she touched.

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved friend and colleague, Kevin Brady, following his courageous battle with cancer.

Kevin joined Long Island Board of REALTORS® in 2023 as Government Affairs Director for Queens and immediately set to work reimagining the association’s advocacy efforts in one of New York’s most diverse and rapidly evolving regions. A brilliant strategist and passionate advocate, Kevin worked tirelessly to strengthen LIBOR’s presence and impact throughout the borough. He spearheaded initiatives such as the association’s participation in the Queens Pride Parade, forged partnerships with local nonprofits to provide first-time homebuyer education and facilitated meaningful discussions with New York City Council members on housing policy, transparency, and accessibility.

Known for his optimism, collaborative spirit, and deep understanding of local, state, and national politics, Kevin made a lasting impact on both colleagues and community partners.

Raised in Levittown, he was the first member of his family to earn a professional education. Kevin earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Stony Brook University; and later earned his Juris Doctor from the City University of New York School of Law. Kevin passed the New York Bar in 2021 and was admitted to practice in Washington, D.C.

Before joining LIBOR, Kevin built an accomplished career spanning public service, non-profits and politics. His commitment to service extended well beyond his professional roles. He co-founded the Nassau Bar Association’s LGBTQ Committee, where he mentored students and young professionals.

In September 2025, Kevin was recognized by Long Island Business News as a recipient of its 40 Under Forty award, honoring his outstanding professional achievements, and dedication to uplifting and unifying Long Island’s communities.

Kevin’s passing leaves a tremendous void within LIBOR and in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. While his loss is deeply felt, the legacy he leaves behind will continue to inspire us. His passion for advocacy, his unwavering commitment to fairness and opportunity, and his belief in expanding access to housing for all will remain a guiding force for our association and the communities we serve.
