90 years of this neighborhood. 🏡 In 1936, Memphis became only the second city in America to build a public housing community.

Lauderdale Courts opened right here - red-brick buildings, tree-lined courtyards, and a neighborhood designed around the idea that families deserved a real place to live.

In 1949, a fourteen-year-old Elvis moved into Apartment 328. In 1999, Henry Turley and partners invested in revitalization - preserving the historic architecture while building the next chapter.

Today it's Uptown Square. The red-brick is original. The courtyards are still here. The neighborhood is still growing.

90 years of families, history, and people making this corner of Memphis home.

The two-bedroom at Uptown Square that makes you stop looking anywhere else in Downtown Memphis. 🏡

Name 3 underrated Downtown Memphis neighborhoods. We'll start. 👇

📍 The Pinch: Settled by Irish immigrants in the 1800s and one of the oldest neighborhoods in Memphis. Home to Westy's (open 'til 2 AM since 1983), Alcenia's, and more history per block than most cities have total.

📍 Uptown: Georgian Revival red-brick since 1936. Elvis lived in Apartment 328. St. Jude is an 8-minute walk. Greenlaw Park, the "I AM FREE" mural, and Memphis Sweets on the corner.

📍 The Medical District: Connects the Pinch, Uptown, and The Edge.

Latara has been at Uptown Square for seven months - and the residents already know her by name. 💛

Meet Latara, leasing consultant, working at Uptown for the past seven months.

Latara loves the location as it is in the heart of Downtown, Memphis which is minutes from several shopping and restaurant locations. She also loves the history at Uptown such as the iconic apartment 328 where Elvis lives during his teenage years.

She enjoys meeting new people and creating new connections with residents. The care for the community is what she loves the most about Uptown Square.

Before Graceland, before Sun Studio, before any of it - there was a shy kid practicing guitar in the basement laundry room of Apartment 328. 👑 🎸

Elvis moved into Lauderdale Courts in September 1949 - one of the first federally funded housing communities in America. He was fourteen. The apartment was 689 square feet. He lived here until 1953, longer than any Memphis address except Graceland.

The building was almost torn down in the mid-'90s. Elvis fans, the city, and private developers saved it. Today Apartment 328 is a 1950s time capsule - vintage furniture, an authentic '50s refrigerator, and a recipe card for Elvis's favorite fried peanut butter, banana, and jelly sandwich still on the counter.
