How far in advance should I apply for a mortgage?
The sooner, the better — but only apply when you’re close to starting your home search.
Most mortgage pre-approval letters are valid for 30–90 days, depending on the lender.
Getting pre-approved early gives you a clear budget, helps you spot any credit issues ahead of time, and shows sellers you’re a serious buyer. If your pre-approval expires, you can always update it with recent documents.
