Dorothy Day House provides housing and support to families experiencing homelessness/housing insecurity, helping parents and children stay together as they work toward stability.

When parents feel supported and empowered, they are better equipped to support their children. 📚

Lauren Short of SchoolKit joined our Family Workshop to help parents navigate the world of education. From understanding classroom fundamentals and state test results to finding the right words to ask school administrators for additional support, Lauren gave families practical tools they can use as their children grow and learn.

At Dorothy Day House, our work goes beyond providing a place to stay. We want to help families build the knowledge, confidence, and connections they need for the road ahead. Thank you, Lauren, for helping parents feel prepared to advocate for their children!

This week, we’re especially in need of a few household essentials to help with the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of our homes:

In Poverty Is the Pearl of Great Price, Dorothy Day reflects on the way children see the world with wonder, meet others with openness, and continue loving even when they encounter imperfection.

Her words remind us that hospitality begins with how we see one another. It asks us to look beyond circumstances and assumptions and recognize the dignity of every person.

At DDH, we strive to welcome every family as Christ, offering a place of safety, support, and belonging as families work toward stable housing.

May we learn to see one another with greater compassion, extend grace more freely, and make room for one another, just as we are. 💚

🔨A huge thank-you to Trey Breen of Breen's Better Builds for donating his services to renovate the kitchen sinks and island at Dorothy’s House, and to Billy Shaw of Countertops of Memphis for generously donating the new island countertop!

These improvements help us keep Dorothy’s House welcoming, functional, and ready to serve the families who call it home.
