Cleveland is once again discussing the
future of Burke Lakefront Airport - and it's a
complex situation.

Burke isn't unused land, it's a federally regulated airport, has received FAA funding, serves as a relief and emergency diversion airport, and plays a contingency role for the region. Any closure would require federal approval, resolution of funding obligations, and extensive planning and environmental review

At the same time, the site represents over 450 acres of prime lakefront with major redevelopment potential.

No resolution has been reached, but the outcome could shape Cleveland's waterfront, infrastructure, and economy for decades.

A big conversation is happening in Cleveland right now! The potential closure of Burke Lakefront Airport could free up roughly 450 acres of prime lakefront land just east of downtown. There is a LOT that would go into this process.

Supporters see long-term redevelopment potential, others raise concerns about aviation access, logistics, and economic impact.

This could be one of the most significant land-use discussions Cleveland has had in decades. This is one to watch closely!
