With the sun shining, the waterfront buzzing, and fans arriving from around the world, there's an unmistakable energy in the city ahead of Friday's FIFA World Cup match at Lumen Field.

After Monday's match kicked off Seattle's World Cup hosting duties, the excitement has only continued to build as the city prepares for its second match. As one of six FIFA World Cup matches being played here, it's incredible to see Seattle taking center stage on the world football scene.

As an Australian living in Seattle, it's been especially fun to see so many fellow Aussies making their way to town. Between visiting supporters and Seattle's vibrant Australian expat community, there are plenty of familiar accents being heard around the city right now.

And while Australia may have my heart, it's hard not to get caught up in the excitement of Team USA playing on home soil. Big crowds, world-class football, and one of the best stadium atmospheres in the country. It doesn't get much better than that.

I am deeply honored to share that I have been chosen as the Mercer Island High School PTSA’s 2025-2026 Volunteer Service Award recipient for my support of the Mercer Island Orchestra Program.

After six years serving as President of the Mercer Island Orchestra Boosters, I recently stepped down from the role, and it has given me a chance to reflect on what this community has built together. When I first became involved, just over 100 students participated in orchestra across grades 5 through 12. Today, that number has grown to more than 350 students, including nearly 90 incoming fifth graders this year alone. To me, that growth represents more than music. It represents belonging, confidence, discipline, creativity, and the kind of community support that helps students thrive.

I am so grateful to the PTSA for this recognition, and even more grateful to the students, families, teachers, and volunteers who continue to make the orchestra program such a meaningful part of Mercer Island life.
