Lisa was a dream seller to work with and was sent to me by some past clients! She recently retired and was looking to downsize so she could spend more time with family, her horses, and dogs. We were able to get her home sold in record time, for full price and got her headed on to her next chapter.

Meet my friends Martin and Bernidett! This sweet couple wanted to be closer to family, but were feeling unsure how to handle a cross state move because of all of the logistics involved.

Well, we toured several homes in the Treasure Valley and found just the perfect one that allowed Martin to get and RV bay garage and double RV parking off the side of it!

Talk about a hole-in-one and hitting the jack-pot!

Congratulations you two! So thankful to have been able to help you find your little piece of Idaho! 🙂

My washing machine broke and it made me think about what a miracle this machine is...and how I'm thankful to live in this great country. Here's what I mean.

Both Justin and my parents were working class and our humble American home owned a washer...AND a dryer.

I find this amazing.

For 1000’s of years, humans washed their clothes by hand. Within two decades of the invention of electric wringer washers in the 1920s, 60% of homes with electricity in the US owned a washer.

The automatic tumbler washer was brought to market in the 1950s. However, even in the early 1980s, many Americans were still using electric tumbler washers (like my mom). Fully automatic washers were expensive so you could only find them in laundromats.

Fast forward to today, 85% of US homes have a magical automatic washing machine. In the UK, over 97% own a washer.
Over 2 billion people worldwide own a washing machine.

They connect to WIFI, have more cycles than we need, and lightly fluff the delicates. Homebuilders have created a special “laundry room” just for this essential chore.

I find this absolutely fascinating.

Before the washing machine, moms would spend 6-8 hours every week just washing clothes. It was a tiring effort.

Thanks to the magical washing machine, my mother had time to read books and take me for nature walks where she taught me to appreciate Idaho’s outdoors.

Today, I get to do this with my daughter.

I’m empowered to be a realtor, a working mom, a wife, enjoy books, explore Idaho with my favorite hobbies of hunting and biking…greatly thanks to our washing machine.

I think it’s one of the greatest inventions ever.

I’m writing this to pause and thank the innovators, the steel mills, the processing industries, the assemblers, the energy industries, the shipping companies, the advertisers, and the retailers who create human progress.

Not one single person could do this alone.

In fact, thousands of people in hundreds of industries, all doing what they do best, create the miraculous washing machine.

Now that’s amazing!

It's estimated you can add up to $24,000 of value just by upgrading your front door! A cute, well-decorated, and beautiful front door and entryway can transform a home's value.

If you have a solid door, paint it for $50-60. Or if you choose to replace, Home Depot has beautiful doors for $500-800. Or I'd even recommend Marketplace where you can snag a deal for a couple hundred dollars. :)

Why did Sears stop selling homes in 1942?
These home kits were wildly popular in the early 1900s. When Sears released its “Sears Modern Homes” catalog line, it was complete with 40 ready-to-build homes. Eventually, it was expanded into over 400 different designs and layouts, with the option to add on plumbing and electrical for an additional cost.
(For cities without municipal water systems, you could add-on an outhouse for just $23!)

The prices ranged from around $650 to around $6,500 for the complete kit, which included pre-cut lumber. They advertised that you could build your own home in 90 days.
Most of the history of these homes was lost due to the destruction of sales records during the move to Sears Tower in the 1970s.

However, it is estimated that they sold between 70,000 and 100,000 homes between 1908 and 1940. It is hard to say how many homes are still standing today. At least 5,000 of them have been identified, but most are still undiscovered.

Experts believe around 70% of them are still standing - some of them right here in Boise!

The phrase “they sure don’t build them like this anymore” is a direct reference to Sears homes. (Okay, that part might not be a fact, but it feels true.)

In 1911, Sears opened their own mortgage company, in an effort to make the process streamlined for its customers. But this was likely their downfall.

The company faced a public relations disaster when the Great Depression hit. They ended up having to foreclose on many of their own customer's homes. The final nail in the coffin was the lumber shortage in the early 1940s, due to the preparations for WW2.

They halted residential construction from fulfillment issues and had to refund deposits on homes that were made. They discontinued the catalog in 1940, and completely closed their sales offices in 1942.
