The year was 1894 and the American Labor movement was in full swing. In an effort to recognize and celebrate the development and achievements of laborers who were the backbone of the American work force, Labor Day was introduced. Grover Cleveland, our 24th President, signed the celebration of Labor Day into law on June 28th, 1894, now observed on the first Monday of September. So go ahead, take the day off, enjoy a three day weekend. Happy Labor Day!
