“Why do I cry for a land that I don’t know?
Why are tears running down my face for memories I never lived?
These are the tears of my family’s heart.

It started when I was born… born into a family of refugees in a beautiful, foreign country; in a warm, tropical climate like my family’s land.
I could’ve been an islander, nevertheless, I am an AMERICAN!

But, why do I feel such pain & loss?! Why does my heart ache when I see & hear stories of what was & could’ve been?! It is as if I went through it all myself.
All of these feelings are due to my family, they gave me the gift of love for THEIR .

The tears my father sheds for the land he did know & lost; the sadness my father and mother feel for their youth lost forever.
The memories engraved in my grandparents hearts.
That constant reminder of a place so near but beyond their reach.

Their loss has been my gain;
Their anguish, my happiness;
Their hardships, my comforts;
Their opportunities, my prosperity;
Their freedom, my freedom;
& their longing, my longing.

I am the daughter of a sad & lost Cuban boy & girl.
I am the granddaughter of the heart of the family.
My blood, my spirit, my soul, my roots & traditions are Cuban.
My birth, my land, my pride, my freedom & my rights are AMERICAN.

South Florida has seen an influx of purchasers from the Northeast over the past year as the pandemic sent people south in search of warmer climes and more space. However, most of those deals were focused on the single-family market, while condos lingered. Mr. Sapir said he believes his building is the exception because it has only 16 units.
“The low-density condos have gotten the best traction,” he said.
