There is something about serendipity in this life.

In the 1970s my father, Gerald Leonard Solomon, played quarterback on the sand at 85th Street in Miami Beach. The other quarterback was a guy named Steven Hunt Grabow.

A firecracker, a phone book cover, and an unsolved murder in Aspen. Last week I found something in my old junk that connected me to all of it.

Sometime in 2008, while doing payroll, I cut a check for an obscene amount to one of the principal's partners. After it was signed I had to deliver it myself.

My windows were open. On Pine Tree Drive a gust of wind took the envelope out of my car and blew it right to the heavens.

I scoured the east side of the street for two hours, into the dark. I couldn't find it. So I called my Dad.

The call came at 7 PM. The broker would not tell me who his buyer was. So I told him: if it isn't Donald Trump, we need 24-hour notice.

He gave me the name.

"I'm on the way." I ran out of the house as fast as I could and was at the property in no time.
