A room should have a moment that makes you stop. For this bedroom, it was this corner: the hanging chair set against the hand-painted Chinoiserie mural, with the garden just visible beyond the glass. A reading nook, a daydreaming spot, a little world within a world. Designing for children and pre-teens means designing for imagination, and this corner captures exactly that. The kind of space a young person grows into and never wants to leave.

Let's talk Japan culture shock... starting with trash cans. Or rather, the complete absence of them. Yes, you read that right. In Japan you carry your trash with you until you find somewhere to dispose of it — which, spoiler, is not easy to find. And if you're counting on soap and paper towels in public restrooms, think again. The Japanese come prepared with their own and after this trip, so will I.

It's always the details that make a room feel complete. The "Cheers" neon sign glowing beside the bed. The gold sunburst chandelier catching the light overhead. The canopy frame strung with fairy lights that make the whole room feel like a celebration. These are the finishing touches that take a beautifully designed space and make it unforgettable.

Japan gave me so much to fall in love with: the interior design, the craftsmanship, the details everywhere you look. But the gardens were something else entirely. The way nature wraps itself around historic temples, the stillness of the water, the ancient beauty of it all. Breathtaking doesn't even quite cover it! I could have spent days just wandering through them. And next time I visit Japan, that's exactly what I plan to do.

Some things you just can't walk away from. I tried, I really did! But as an avid trunk collector and leaving a Louis Vuitton trunk behind in a Kyoto boutique was simply not something I regretted. Could I have found the same trunk in the US and had it painted? Yes. But it wouldn't carry the same feeling as discovering it while wandering the streets of Kyoto. That story matters to me. A couple of phone calls later, she was coming home.

This trunk was made for watches, but it can easily be used to store any type of jewelry. I love using fashion pieces as decor, and this trunk is going to be a showstopper in my home.

Before I even landed in Japan, I already knew what I was looking for. Some of you caught the in-progress video of my water closet, and I’m so happy to report that she is done. Well, for now. As any designer will tell you, a space is never truly finished. One of the pieces on my must-find list were vintage scroll weights. I have several vintage scrolls that have been passed down through my family, each one carrying its own history. But of course, more is more - so we purchased 2 additional scrolls at an antique shop in Japan along with the scroll weights. And the one you’re about to see in this video could not be more perfect for this space!

Can we talk about the Miami white epidemic for a second? I get it! White feels safe, clean, neutral. But harsh white can actually work against a space, flattening it instead of elevating it.

If you're refreshing your home and craving something neutral that still has life to it, the answer is in the rug. The right neutral rug adds dimension, warmth, and personality without ever feeling loud. Here are some of my favorites from Anthropologie that prove neutral doesn't have to mean boring.

Nothing could have prepared me for shopping in Japan. The sheer number of shops, the size of the malls, the way every single store pulls you in. It's a lot, in the most beautiful way. This Dior Saddle had my name on it from the moment I saw it. It's the perfect size, a classic silhouette, and the kind of deal that only happens when you're shopping tax free abroad. It was a non-negotiable. And pro tip: if you're traveling overseas, carry your passport everywhere. You'll thank yourself later.
