It all comes down to how Florida calculates assessments, and there is a lot more to it than just your purchase price. We published a complete breakdown of market value, assessed value, exemptions, and millage rates so you can understand the true cost of homeownership before you buy. Planning to apply for a homestead exemption? Keep in mind the deadline is March 1st of the tax year you want it to apply to.
