šØ ELON MUSK HELPING AI RIVALS & COMPETITORS - TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE- IT REVEALS SOMETHING IMPORTANT ABOUT HOW HE BELIEVES TECHNOLOGY SHOULD ADVANCE.
In a surprising statement on X, Elon Musk admitted that he had been āclearly wrongā about Anthropic and called the company āobviously currently the leader in AI.ā
Musk said no company had released an AI model as capable as Anthropicās Mythos and Fable systems and predicted that Mythos 2 could be coming soon.
That is an extraordinary acknowledgment from the founder of xAIāone of Anthropicās most direct competitors.
But the bigger story may not be who is currently winning the AI race.
It is Muskās belief that the world advances faster when powerful technology, infrastructure and platforms are not used solely to block competitors.
According to recent reporting, Anthropic has entered into a massive commercial computing agreement that gives it access to hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs across SpaceXās Colossus data-center infrastructureāeven though Anthropic directly competes with Muskās own xAI. Musk has defended the arrangement rather than attempting to deny a rival access to the computing power it needs to grow. (The Times of India)
This follows a pattern seen across Muskās companies:
ā” Tesla opened access to its patents
Tesla pledged not to initiate patent lawsuits against companies using its technology in good faith. The goal was to accelerate the development of electric vehiclesānot merely protect Teslaās position within the industry.
By allowing other manufacturers to benefit from Teslaās innovations, Musk argued that the real competitor was not another electric-car company. It was the enormous global fleet of gasoline-powered vehicles.
š Tesla opened its charging ecosystem to competing automakers
Tesla developed the charging connector now known as the North American Charging System. Rather than keeping it exclusive, Tesla published the design and worked toward broader industry adoption.
The system has now been adopted by major manufacturers including Ford, General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Rivian, Lucid and many others. Drivers of competing electric vehicles are also gaining access to large portions of Teslaās Supercharger network. (Tesla)
š SpaceX provides launch services across the space industry
SpaceX does not reserve its rockets exclusively for Starlink. Its launch capabilities are used by governments, research organizations and commercial satellite operatorsāincluding companies operating in markets that may overlap or compete with SpaceX.
By dramatically lowering launch costs and increasing launch frequency, SpaceX has helped make space more accessible to the entire industry. Competitors can place satellites into orbit faster and more economically because the infrastructure exists.
š§ Musk is allowing a direct AI rival to use massive computing infrastructure
AI development increasingly depends on access to enormous clusters of advanced processors. Providing Anthropic with commercial access to this infrastructure could help it train more capable modelsāeven as it competes against xAI.
That may appear counterintuitive, but it reflects a larger philosophy:
The strongest company should win by building the best productānot by preventing others from competing.

Musk also pointed to X as another example of this philosophy. People who criticize him, oppose his companies or support his competitors are generally free to express those views on the platform.
Whether people agree with every decision Musk makes or not, the principle he is promoting is significant:
Competition should be won through innovation, engineering and executionānot censorship, closed infrastructure or artificial barriers designed to weaken rivals.
Teslaās technology helped accelerate the electric-vehicle revolution.
The Supercharger network helped create a more practical charging system for the entire EV industry.
SpaceX helped reduce the cost of reaching orbit.
Starlink expanded high-speed internet access to remote and underserved areas.
And now, enormous AI computing infrastructure may help accelerate the development of models built by companies competing directly with Musk himself.
Helping competitors does not necessarily weaken innovation.
Sometimes it expands the market, raises the standard for everyone and forces every companyāincluding Muskāsāto become better.
The ultimate goal should not be for one company to control the future.
It should be to move humanity forward faster.
