It’s that time of year again. Most homes in our area have basements and get humid in the summer. Set your dehumidifier to under 50% humidity (mines at 35%). If you don’t have a hose to drain connection, check on the bucket every other day or so and empty.
Additional tips to stop mold: Many folks do not keep their vents open in their basement. It’s important to keep air circulating. Open them! Like my page if you thought this was helpful!

PSA : Is mold remediation or removal covered by insurance?

Remediation and removal of mold won't be covered by your homeowners insurance unless the mold resulted from a covered peril, and coverage is often limited. Covered peril examples are if you had a fire and the water used by the firefighters caused mold in the aftermath.

More often, if you try to make a mold claim, insurance companies will drop you. Moreover, the claim goes into a database that is shared with other insurance companies, effectively blacklisting your home. So DO NOT make a claim is the best practice.

On porous material like wood and drywall, bleach quickly dries off on the surface and will not reach into the deeper part of the material to the mold's root. So, in a few days or weeks, the mold regains its color and grows back to become even worse than it was before you applied the bleach. It is okay to treat mold on non-porous materials like sinks, glass and tile.
