People. Objects. Stories.
After taking a couple of years off to have babies 🤪, I’ve had plenty of time to reflect on what I enjoy most about this work after more than 10 years in design, construction, project management, and consulting.
I’ve always known my work was more about people than design. Which is one of the main things that draws me to it.
Recently, a client reached out after seeing my article in Midland Lifestyles. I spent time walking through their home, hearing stories about their lives and the pieces that matter most to them.
In the coming weeks, I’ll be helping them transition into a smaller home while finding ways to keep what they love and let go of what no longer serves them.
Lately, I’ve been realizing that these are the parts of this industry I enjoy most—and where I can serve people best.
Sometimes people are downsizing. Sometimes they’re growing their family. Sometimes they’re preparing a home for sale, remodeling, moving, or simply trying to make their home function better for the season of life they’re in.
Those in-between spaces are often where I do my best work. Because people’s lives don’t fit neatly into a design package. Sometimes they just need someone with a good eye to solve their problems 😉
Going forward, I want to be more intentional about putting those things at the forefront:
The people.
The objects that matter to them.
And the stories that make a house feel like home.
