Justin Coffman, Mayor of Midlothian Tx is hosting a Back to School Block Party at City Hall on Saturday, August 1, from 9 to noon.

If you have kids heading back to school in a few weeks, this one is worth putting on the calendar. Fun, shopping, and a good morning to be out with neighbors.

Bring the family. Bring a friend. Great way to get the family out and get a little ahead of the school year!

Buying or selling a home is one of the biggest financial decisions most people ever make. Of course it gets emotional. It should. If it did not feel like anything, something would be wrong.

Emotion is not the problem.

Emotion with no strategy behind it is the problem.

I am not going to ask you to calm down. I am going to ask you to be honest about what you want, and then I will go build the plan around it.

I read the contract twice.

I watch the calendar.

I tell you the truth about the number, even when you were hoping to hear something else.

You get to feel it. I will keep the thinking steady.

That is the whole job.

Today the first shovels went into the ground at Heritage Park, right across from City Hall.

In two years, this spot becomes Heritage Plaza, place to gather, slow down, and be together. Concerts. Farmers markets. Quiet evenings that turn into good memories.

Standing behind us was the Larkin Newton Log Cabin, built in 1848. It's one of the oldest pieces of Midlothian's history. Today it watched a new chapter begin.

When a city builds a place people want to spend time, foot traffic follows. And foot traffic is what keeps local shops, restaurants, and offices alive. A $17 million investment downtown is the city saying, out loud, that it believes in this district.

This took years of planning and a lot of people who love this town: our Parks Board, Community Development, Economic Development, city staff, and neighbors who kept showing up.

I am glad to call this place home. And if you own a business here, or you have thought about opening one, this is a downtown worth watching.

Two hundred fifty years of freedom didn't happen by accident.

It happened because generations of men and women were willing to serve something bigger than themselves. Some gave years. Some gave everything.

Today, I'm thinking about the veterans in our community, the active duty families who move every few years and still show up and build a life wherever they land, and the families waiting at home while someone they love serves overseas.

If that's you or someone in your family, thank you. Truly. Freedom is not free, and we don't say that enough.

Happy 250th, America. Here's to the next 250, built on the same foundation of courage and sacrifice. 🇺🇸

Confidence in a home decision doesn't come from certainty. It comes from preparation.

I say this to almost every client at some point, because it's the thing people get backwards.

They think confidence means being 100% sure. That if they just wait long enough, or read enough, or find the "perfect" house, the doubt will disappear.

It won't. Not with a decision this big.

What actually helps is preparation: understanding your numbers, knowing what you're looking at, having someone in your corner who'll tell you the truth even when it's not what you want to hear.

That's not certainty. That's confidence. And it's something you can build, one informed decision at a time.
