When Suddenly...& Without Warning... There Was This To-Tal E-Clipse-Of-The-Sun!

With the country currently experiencing enormous excitement over today’s total eclipse of the sun, we thought we’d share with you our favorite pop culture depiction of the celestial event ever — the “Da Doo” song from 1986’s Little Shop of Horrors. In the film - the man-eating Audrey II plant is transported to Skid Row during a solar eclipse. The “Mean Green Mother from Outer Space” subsequently attempts to take over the Earth one flower shop at a time. So I guess the lesson to be learned here is not only should you protect your eyes during the eclipse, you should probably also refrain from buying any weird and exotic plants for the foreseeable future. Just to be safe…

Newspapers, radio and TV stations and websites have participated in the April 1 tradition of reporting outrageous fictional claims that have fooled their audiences.

In 1992, National Public Radio ran a spot with former President Richard Nixon saying he was running for president again… only it was an actor, not Nixon.

In 1996, Taco Bell, the fast-food restaurant chain, duped people when it announced it had agreed to purchase Philadelphia's Liberty Bell and intended to rename it the Taco Liberty Bell.

In 1998, after Burger King advertised a “Left-Handed Whopper,” scores of clueless customers requested the fake sandwich.

In 2015, Amazon.com reverted its homepage to the look and feel of the page on April 1, 1999.

The search gurus at Google turned your nightmares into a reality in 2015. Visiting com.google offered a nausea-inducing mirror image of your search results.

in 2017, Hulu poked fun at our ever-shortening attention spans by launching a new service, Hu, that only shows eight-second versions of shows.

In 2022, Sprite and McDonald’s teamed up to create a hilarious prank promoting a canned version of McDonald’s Sprite "Spicy Sprite."
