I took a class on this pesky insect last week at Homestead Gardens. Basically, these insects are invasive, but most trees and plants will recover. However, their food of choice is Tree-of-Heaven, so this non-native shrub should be removed. The class was conducted by the University of Maryland Extension. For info, visit: go.umd.edu/SLF.
