🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🥳 Happy Pride, Tacoma! It’s June so it’s officially Pride Month- but remember Tacoma Pride is in July! July 11th in Wright Park to be exact!

There are many many reasons why it’s this way, but in an interview with former Executive Director of the Rainbow Center Quincy and Oasis Youth Center Executive Director Matthew on the Move to Tacoma Podcast a few years ago they explain a little bit about why Pride is in July. Remember Tacoma Pride is not just one day, there are a ton of opportunities and events surrounding Pride to celebrate all of the Q***r and LGBTQIA+ Tacomans over the next couple of months.

I speak to so many q***r folks moving to Tacoma from across the country hoping for a safer quality of life for them and their family members. Look for ways all year long to find ways to contribute time, effort, and money to help ensure that everyone in our community stays safe and free.

I made it to the Downtown Tacoma Farmer’s market today! And ended up bumping into friends from the office. Go figure!

There is something about a packed farmers market that tells you everything you need to know about a place. Broadway Farmers Market is back till the Fall in Downtown Tacoma Thursdays 10-2 and it is one of the great free pleasures of living here.

I got these $10 flowers and a slice of Pizza from Mikey’s Public House. Next time I’m gonna go when I have more time and longer some more.

What is it really like to live on Fox Island? Move to Tacoma Creator Marguerite Martin - Tacoma Real Estate Agent drove 30 minutes out of where she lives in Downtown Tacoma to find out. She sat down with Kris Jones at a stunning low bank waterfront home with its own sand spit to talk through everything a relocator or curious neighbor would want to know.

Fox Island sits off the Gig Harbor peninsula in Pierce County, connected to the mainland by a single bridge that drops you onto the island after you've already crossed the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. So if you live on Fox Island and you're coming home from Tacoma, you cross two bridges to get there. Kris calls it the double cleanse. You wash the day off crossing the Narrows, and whatever's left washes off crossing onto the island. The talk about:

- What it costs to buy a house on Fox Island, both waterfront and interior
- The real difference between low bank, high bank, and no bank waterfront
- Why deep water docks are so rare and so valuable on Fox Island
- Commute times to Tacoma, Seattle, JBLM, and Sea-Tac
- The community life and the gathering places that anchor the island

Yesterday my neighbor asked if I was attending the meeting at ’s new space. The gorgeous new restaurant just so happens to be a short walk from our places so I was all in. The new Wooden City is such a large space (but it sounds like they’re still packed every night) and it looks so great with the giant windows, mural, etc I’m excited to eat there soon.

When we emerged from the meeting The was in full swing. They’re there 10-2 every Thursday till September. I will try to remind people here on Wednesdays!

After that I headed down to Ruston Way for an appointment but I made a quick stop at on the Les Davis Pier. There were scuba divers in the water and a parade of fishermen down the dock.

🎙️New Podcast! Did you know there’s a nonprofit dental clinic in Parkland, WA that provides dental care for children and doesn’t turn away anyone due to inability to pay? This week Marguerite interviewed Carolyn McDougal Weyrick and Dr. Alicia Stephens at Lindquist Dental Clinic for Children in Parkland, WA.

The folks at have been caring for Pierce County kids for almost 90 years, and their model is simple: no child turned away, birth to age 21, regardless of ability to pay.

Marguerite sits down with Dr. Stephens and Carolyn McDougall Weyrick to understand what that actually means. From who qualifies (basically everyone), what insurance they take (basically all of them, including TRICARE with no out-of-pocket for income-qualifying military families), and why Tacoma families with private insurance showing up actually helps the kids who can’t pay.

For income-qualifying military families on TRICARE Dental, Lindquist is the only place in the area that can waive the out-of-pocket and deductible costs entirely, which matters a lot when a family has four or five kids and a $1,300 annual cap per child. Plus: the general anesthesia program that fixes a toddler’s whole mouth in one 90-minute visit, in-school screenings across 60 schools, and a freshly renovated 15-chair clinic ready for more families.

You can hear the whole episode on Youtube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen!
