JUST SOLD in Ixonia 🤍
This August, I had the incredibly bittersweet privilege of listing my childhood home for my mom, and as of last week, it’s officially sold.
31 years ago, my parents bought a little hobby farm in Ixonia. My dad grew up on a farm in Minnesota, and my mom had always dreamed of having a farm of her own—horses, animals, land and a place to raise their family. This property became their sanctuary.
This was also where I grew up, and it was truly the best childhood. We rode our bikes and our horses all over the countryside. It’s where we learned the meaning of hard work through chores like mucking stalls and feeding animals; where we caught lightning bugs, climbed trees, painted barns and fences, washed more eggs than I could ever count, and spent summers baling hay with our brothers. We made mazes in the upper hay barn and searched endlessly for new litters of kittens. There were competitive games of HORSE in the driveway, softball and wiffle ball in the pasture, and kickball in the yard.
There was the time my mom came home with a pygmy goat who continually jumped off the milk house roof, tearing up shingles and driving my dad crazy. 😂 There were holidays, family reunions, baptisms, confirmations, graduations and countless other get-togethers and visits in between.
Eventually, I got to watch my own girls run through this same yard, catching frogs in buckets with their cousins and experiencing a little bit of the magic that made my own childhood so special.
My parents poured 31 years of love, work and life into this farm. They had the most wonderful, caring neighbors who became an extension of our family. It wasn’t just a house, five acres or a collection of old barns. It was their dream and what a wonderful dream it was.
Before we closed, mom said to me “I wish I could just give this farm a big hug.” 🥺 And I think that says it better than I ever could.
This farm gave our family so much. It was a place of peace, a place to gather, a place to grow up, and a place we were always able to come home to.
Goodbye, farm. 🤍
Thank you for 31 beautiful years.
