According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, while women make up nearly 75% of total employment in hospitals, men are significantly underrepresented in many crucial roles. In nursing, just 12% of professionals are male. Among physician assistants, men account for just 31% of the workforce.

This afternoon, we share this news with very heavy hearts.

For the past three years, through our partnership with the City of Milwaukee office of early childhood initiatives, Mighty Small Moments, Joyce’s Legacy Learning Center has helped connect hundreds of Milwaukee children from birth through age five to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Today, the world lost Dolly Parton.

Her legacy is so much bigger than music.

Through her belief that every child deserves the opportunity to fall in love with reading, she placed books into the hands and homes of millions of children around the world.

Here in Milwaukee, we have witnessed that legacy firsthand. We have watched books arrive in mailboxes, children build their very first home libraries, and families create memories around reading together.

We are deeply grateful to have played even a small role in carrying her vision forward.
The books will keep coming. The children will keep reading. And the legacy will live on.

Rest beautifully, Dolly. Thank you for helping generations of children imagine more.

Joyce's Legacy Learning Center is closed today as we celebrate the birthday of our Founder and Executive Director, Mrs. Mercedez. 💜

Here's a little secret you may not know: she has been fascinated by jellyfish since childhood.

One species, often called the immortal jellyfish, can return to an earlier stage of its life cycle and begin again.

Beginning again. Becoming again.

It feels fitting for the woman who built a place around the belief that your story is never over just because life took a different turn.

Happy Birthday, Mrs. Mercedez!
