One of the trails we’ve come to love over the past few years is the Tamarack Trailhead near Blue Lakes outside Markleeville. It connects with the Pacific Crest Trail, and one of the best things about it? You can make the hike as long—or as short—as you want.

How do you get to Tamarack Trailhead near Blue Lakes?
Take Hwy 88 past Pickett’s Junction toward Blue Lakes. Turn onto Blue Lakes Road and follow it almost all the way to Blue Lakes. Watch for the sign directing you left toward the trailhead.

This is one of the things we love most about living in the Carson Valley. Within a short drive, we can be hiking high in the Sierra, exploring the Tahoe area, kayaking an alpine lake or finding another trail we’ve never tried.
