Recent hail storms may have you wondering - does a 30 year roof exist?

Texas has the highest occurrence of hail in the country, with billions of dollars in insurance claims for roofs each year. So if you are considering a new roof, here are some things to consider.

• Ratings of 30, 40, or even 50-year roofs are based completely on ideal conditions. Little to no wind, constant temperatures, and definitely no exposure to full Texas sun.

• A warranty for any period of time, even a "lifetime warranty", would cover manufacturing defects only, and would not include weather damage or fallen branches.

• Researchers at an independent "Hail Lab" test shingles for impact resistance. Ratings are available at their website: https://ibhs.org/hail/shingle-performance-ratings/

!!! Expect FREEZING Temperatures in the evenings starting this weekend !!!

- Protect outside faucets by draining and disconnecting hoses, then apply a faucet cover or insulative materials.

- Maintain temperatures above 55 degrees in areas where pipes can be exposed to the cold.

- Open cabinet doors inside the home to allow warm air to spread.

- A slow drip will allow water movement and helps prevent freeze to faucets on exposed walls.

- Use Space Heaters with caution. Keep a distance of 3 feet from combustible materials. Plug them directly into an outlet and not into extension cords or plug multipliers. Place in areas not likely to be tipped over by animals or humans.

Freezing temps are on their way!! It is looking like we will have a few days with lows at or below 32 degrees. Here are some tips…

Leave a faucet dripping and cabinet doors open. Fill a bathtub or containers with water for backup water & to flush toilet if pipes do freeze.

If you have a well house - put a heater in it and turn it on.

Do not use stove for heat, especially gas.

Do not overload outlets with heaters. Do not use extension cords or power strips with heaters, this can cause fires.

Layer your clothes to stay warm.

Keep your vehicle fueled, check your antifreeze and keep blankets, snacks and water in your vehicle even for short trips, with below zero windchill, your vehicle heater may not keep up.
