Moving into (and rattling around) a larger than needed old Victorian might sound dreamy to some. I know, because...HGTV. And admittedly, despite all the work stripping wallpaper, and many plumbing challenges, it has been fun, (for me at least!) But beyond all the fixes needed, sometimes the biggest challenges are the littler hurdles. Turns out, to get a bowl of cereal (or a desperately needed cup of coffee!), we have to make a daily pilgrimage of sorts: across the second floor balcony, down the front stairs, through the foyer, then the dining room, through the butler pantry and then across the kitchen to get to the larder....

Cabinet hardware finally arrived!!
🤔Who else is in desperate need of a winter manicure? 😂
--After getting to tour so many beautiful homes as an agent, choosing a design style is challenging!
Eventually hoping to create an "old Paris cafe" vibe: elegant but unpretentious and a bit worn. And farmhouse enough to go with the chickens outside.

Calling all designers and taste-makers! At the choosing-a-countertop stage, and fretting over this decision, as it will be a choice "set in stone" 😉 once made.

Houses from 1890s often had Carrara marble. BUT, choices available now at multiple showrooms are a very icy grey blue combination with a rather frenetic looking pattern (see 1st 2 pics)...and not a lot of boats loaded with more options from Italy landing soon.

SO...collecting some thoughts and opinions: I found Calacatta Gold wall tiles (love!!), but for the center island, thinking of a warmer stone than Carrara or Calacatta with more dimension and depth (see 5th pic). Egads...is that brown, you say? No...it's really more a warm grey...🤞🏻(I hope) with bronzy streaks that will match my brass hardware...

True confessions, I had this stone (Taj Mahal) for countertops 3 houses ago and loved it: softer pattern & wears like iron, so more practical than the Carrara. Grey and white cabinets with soapstone perimeter should help things from looking too brown in there...Thoughts?
