Walk down Grand Avenue toward Snelling this week and you will hit orange barrels before you hit the intersection. The street between Macalester and Snelling has been closed since July 20, and if you assumed this is a rerun of last year's mess, you would be wrong. This year's project is smaller, shorter, and built around keeping the sidewalks open. The neighborhood just hasn't caught up to that yet.
That gap between what people expect and what is actually happening is worth closing, because it changes how you plan your next six weeks on the avenue. In our latest blog post, Tom Meckey takes a deep dive into St Paul's construction projects and how they are impacting local businesses.
A resident's guide to the Grand and Snelling construction in St. Paul: what's actually closed, how to get around it, and what opened in the city anyway.
