Celebrating 17 years of partnership with Northeast Bank! 💙

Recently, the Northeast Bank team joined us at Simpson Community Shelter & Apartments to prepare and serve lunch through our Cook & Connect program. It was a wonderful opportunity to bring our communities together and share a meal with our shelter guests.

In 2003, Tonya Brownlow sat in the basement of Simpson United Methodist Church during the Monday night "bed lottery," watching men enter their names in hopes of getting a shelter bed for 28 days.

More than 20 years later, she's back as Simpson's Executive Director.
In a letter to our community, Tonya reflects on how far Simpson has come, from a church-basement shelter to an organization serving nearly 2,000 people a year across four counties.

Craig, a parent in Simpson’s Family Housing program, turned a paracord hobby (his way of practicing mindfulness), into a recent “My Time” event for other parents and caregivers in Simpson family housing.

“My Time” sessions are designed to build on parents’ and caregivers’ personal parenting experiences and cultural knowledge. While activities take place for adults, children are supervised by Simpson staff so Caregivers have time to rest, connect, and share.

“This is the thing that brings me joy,” Craig shared about sharing his hobby with others.

Besides planning and leading the event, Craig created the budget, the supply list and the flyer, and made sure every participant left with something they made. He's ready to teach another class soon!

Simpson Community Shelter & Apartments is looking for Volunteer Prep Cooks to help get warm, nourishing meals ready for our guests.

Never cooked for more than four? Perfect. All skill levels are welcome, and you'll leave with experience:
• Cooking for a crowd
• Meal prepping and menu planning
• Knowing your way around a commercial kitchen

Best of all you get to meet our guests and make new friends.

The commitment: Two shifts a month, Monday through Friday, 2 to 5 pm.
Six hours a month. Countless meals served. 💛

Together, we’ll consider what it looks like to move from short-term, transactional responses toward deeper, more lasting change.
