Did you catch Mayor Jacob Frey's press conference held at the Thorp Building last Wednesday? We were honored to provide space for Mayor Frey, Council Member Linea Palmisano, City climate leaders & local business owners, including our own Jon Sander, to discuss the Green Cost Share program, an important piece of the Climate Legacy Initiative (CLI). The Green Cost Share program helps reduce pollution and addresses climate change by helping businesses and residential property owners make upgrades to their property that improve the environment and save money. The CLI is Mayor Frey’s innovative plan to fund the City’s accelerated, equitable, and aggressive climate goals over the next ten years. Through the CLI, Minneapolis is poised to become one of the most sustainable cities in the nation. Bohm is proud to help in these efforts by making sustainable updates to its historic buildings, including many in recent years at the Thorp Building.

In 1995 Dave Felcker and a group of northeast Minneapolis artists held meetings in his then International Gallery space on the 2nd floor of the Thorp Building with the intent of starting an art crawl that would include all of Northeast Minneapolis. The name Art-A-Whirl was inspired when one of the meeting attendees was taking a pit stop in 2nd floor 1618 restroom. At the time there was a business located across Central Avenue named Whirl-Air-Flow with its tornado logo on the façade, which was visible directly through the window. This adaptation eventually became the logo for Art-A-Whirl!
