Shady Oak Beach opens today!

From the City of Hopkins:

In light of Governor Walz's recent order easing restrictions around COVID-19, Shady Oak Beach will open to the public on June 19, with the following modifications:

• The beach will open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• A pass is not required to enter and use Shady Oak Beach this season.
• The beach will NOT be staffed with a lifeguard. Swim at your own risk and with caution. Please be safe!
• Buoys will outline the swimming area.
• The playground is open for use.
• The dock will remain closed all season.
• The high dive will remain closed all season.
• Pets are not allowed.
• There will be no concessions, rentals, amenities or obstacle course.
• There will be no full-time beach attendant. Part-time staff will clean the area daily.
• Drinking fountains and the foot wash stations are shut off for the season. Bring plenty of water and stay hydrated.
• Indoor bathrooms are closed for the season. However, there will be additional portable toilets onsite.
• Social distancing requirements apply at all times. Please do not enter the beach if you are feeling sick. It's a great idea to bring hand sanitizer, too.
• And last but not least ... have fun! It's why we're opening it after all!

Unfortunately, during the current pandemic, there are criminals who are taking advantage of others through various different scams. Below are some of the most common scams that you should be aware of:

- Stimulus Check Scams: the IRS will never call, text, e-mails, or contact you on social media asking you for any types of personal information, including your bank account. You also need to watch out for e-mails with attachments or links that claim to have additional information about economic impact payments or refunds.

- Home Testing Kits: scammers are claiming to have access to home testing kits for COVID-19.Some are even claiming to have treatments as well. There are no treatments or testing kits approved by the FDA for home use at the present time. Additionally, please only make purchases from trusted websites. Always look for the "lock" image in the browser bar so you know the website is encrypted and can't be hacked.

- Sick Family Member Scam: scammers are contacting people pretending to be a sick family member in the hospital with COVID-19 and asking that money be sent to them. If this happens to you, hang up and contact your family member directly to get in touch with them.

Please be vigilant at this time with all personal and banking information. Remember, if something seems strange or suspect, it likely is a scam. Lastly, please be sure to report any suspicious activity to the Sheriff's Department.

Attention Brier Creek Residents:

Minnetonka Public Works will begin flushing water mains in our area on Monday, April 20th. Flushing will take place weekdays from 5:30am to 5pm in most areas.

Schedules may be adjusted due to weather. During flushing it's normal to experience some discolored water, which is safe to drink and can be cleared up by running cold water.

Residents and Guests of Brier Creek:

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we are making the decision to close all of our on-site offices on the weekends until further notice.

As always, if you have an emergency service request you may still call the office and follow the prompts to put that in and we will still take care of it on weekends too. This closure only applies to normal weekend business hours in the office.
