🌊 Fun local lore: Sailors arriving to our shores centuries ago spotted the lupines blanketing the dunes and mistook them for Blue Mountains—and that’s how Blue Mountain Beach got its name!
Every Spring, these delicate wildflowers light up our dunes and roadside vistas with their dreamy purples and blues. Native to our region, the Lupinus Westianus is more than just a pretty face—it plays a vital role in stabilizing our coastal dune system. 🌾
Here are a few fun (and important!) facts about our beloved Blue Lupines:
🔹 They’re part of the legume family, not just a flower!
🔹 They’re biennial, meaning they take two full years to bloom.
🔹 You’ll find them in protected places like Topsail Hill Preserve and Deer Lake State Park.
🔹 Their color ranges from pale lavender to deep bluish-purple, depending on location and timing.

The friends of Camp Helen's 9th Annual Pumpkin Patch and Native Plant Sale will remain open daily from 9am-4pm throughout October 🎃🎃🎃
