Scant notice when I posted this WSJ article in May '21 showing Billings, MT at #4 but when BIL shot to #1 in yesterday's WSJ real estate index, it was all the buzz! Of course Missoula and Bozeman have always been more vocal about their skyrocketing real estate markets, but according to the survey features, affordability, wages, and other considerations Billings, MT for the win. https://www.wsj.com/articles/montana-boomtown-jumps-to-no-1-on-wsj-realtor-com-housing-market-index-11626773400

Evening paddle w my adventure associate on the Blackfoot River. While some real estate buyers can afford to purchase property on the water, for most, it’s just a dream. That’s why it’s important to know that Montana law clearly recognizes the right of the public to use natural waterways that are capable of recreation. To protect landowners, the law requires the public to remain within the high-water marks of the waterway (unless an artificial barrier requires a portage above the high-water mark.) So as a public land owner-you-have the right to play on Montana’s beautiful waters, property owner or not. (photocredit)

Even in 1940, were higher priced than most everywhere else! Also, note the introduction of cheap home construction or balloon construction as it was called by skilled carpenters who thought it would blow away ... great exhibit on what life was like in the West. Of course I nerded out on the housing.
