My Uncle Sam, who turned 90 this weekend! , taught me how to castrate cows when I was a teenager and it’s been my job on our ranch ever since. This weekend I put my skills back to work for our family branding.

These days my Dad runs a very small herd so it was just my Dad, my brothers and my family ( no Eli ☹️) working cows. The herd is smaller, the day is shorter, the cows are wilder and it’s still a great way to spend a Saturday. S F Bar is our family brand, for my Grandpa Sam Foss.

When I help people buy and sell acreage in Montana, my perspective and experience comes from growing up on a large working ranch. It’s not just a passing interest, it’s my history.
