EASTER BLESSINGS

"On this Easter morning, let us look again at the lives we have been so generously given and let us let fall away the useless baggage that we carry -- old pains, old habits, old ways of seeing and feeling -- and let us have the courage to begin again. Life is very short, and we are no sooner here than it is time to depart again, and we should use to the full the time that we still have.

We don't realize all the good we can do. A kind, encouraging word or helping hand can bring many a person through dark valleys in their lives. We weren't put here to make money or to acquire status or reputation. We were sent here to search for the light of Easter in our hearts, and when we find it we are meant to give it away generously.

May the spirit and light of this Easter morning and the special spirit and light of this abbey at Corcomroe bless us all, watch over us and protect us on our journey, open us from the darkness into the light of peace and hope and transfiguration."

BLESSING FOR PEACE

As the fever of day calms towards twilight
May all that is strained in us come to ease.

We pray for all who suffered violence today,
May an unexpected serenity surprise them.

For those who risk their lives each day for peace,
May their hearts glimpse providence at the heart of history.

That those who make riches from violence and war
Might hear in their dreams the cries of the lost.

That we might see through our fear of each other
A new vision to heal our fatal attraction to aggression.

That those who enjoy the privilege of peace
Might not forget their tormented brothers and sisters.

That the wolf might lie down with the lamb,
That our swords be beaten into ploughshares

And no hurt or harm be done
Anywhere along the holy mountain.

Happy heavenly birthday to my Aunt Nan, affectionately referred to as Nanny! What a joy she was to all who knew her. Her life was not an easy one, but she always had a smile and a helping hand extended for those in need. She was beautiful, loving, and generous. The tea kettle was always on and a scone or sweet on the table should someone decide to “call in.”
Oh how you are missed, my darling! You will always evoke the sweetest memories and remain in our memory and in our hearts!💗💗

Beautiful words from John O’Donohue! 💗💗

Beautiful words from John O’Donohue! 💗💗

This is the time to be slow,
Lie low to the wall
Until the bitter weather passes.

Try, as best you can, not to let
The wire brush of doubt
Scrape from your heart
All sense of yourself
And your hesitant light.

If you remain generous,
Time will come good;
And you will find your feet
Again on fresh pastures of promise,
Where the air will be kind
And blushed with beginning.

A beautiful soul! I’m grateful for having met him in Ireland not long before his sudden and unexpected passing. His writings give amazingly insight into the heart and the beauty around us, if we open our eyes to see it’s glory. Rest in Peace John! The world is a better place for having you in it. So grateful for your writings which continue to inspire and encourage us to be our best selves.💗💗💗

‘Unknown to us, there are moments
When crevices we cannot see open
For time to come alive with beginning.’
John O'Donohue

'A beginning is a beautiful thing,' John would say, 'and even though the journey ahead is unclear, a beginning will always remain true to itself.' We are all called to be artists in our own destiny, learning to flow with the current and sometimes swim against other currents. Many years prior to its publication, John opened himself up to a new beginning which was to become Anam Cara and his many books beyond. These books have brought an embrace of minding, healing and light around all of our own new beginnings.

This year, we honor Anam Cara with the twenty-fifth anniversary edition. Still going strong, this beautiful book is a blessing of love that draws the reader toward an awakening to the uniqueness of the gift we are to ourselves, each other, and this amazing earth. A person's time on this earth never really ends; it becomes transfigured and reabsorbed back into eternity. One aspect of time is as a unit of measurement that records the events of our lives, how we grow and change and the length of the seasons of Mother Earth, which holds and nourishes our fragile human lives. The life of a person is a droplet from this fountain of eternity, but in the act of loving one another this moment stretches back into the eternal spring. At this time of closing of the old year and stepping onto the threshold of the new year, we look back at what has passed for us and forward towards our new 'begin-again.'

We thank you for the support, care and appreciation in which you hold John's beautiful gift to us all.

Beannachtaí na hathbhliana,
(Blessings of the New Year)

There is a lovely idea in the Celtic tradition that if you send out goodness from yourself, or if you share that which is happy or good within you, it will all come back to you multiplied ten thousand times. In the kingdom of love there is no competition, there is no possessiveness or control. The more love you give away, the more love you will have.
