Did you know…?
This type of chimney design is called corbeling. If you see a home with the chimney coming through the top or apex of the roof it’s likely a 1900,s build.
But why put the chimney flue on an angle in the attic..?
Well as it turns out there were 3 primary reasons….
1) It was thought the chimney had to run through the roof at the ridge for structural reasons.
2) It was thought that it helped drafting of the furnace exhaust. But the most important reason..3) it was believed it kept out witches spirits…
