I’m a born-and-raised Vinton Terrier, but this weekend I cheered for the Franklin County Eagles. 👏 My daughter made her middle school volleyball A-team (first try as a 7th grader), and her middle school jamboree this past weekend was against my alma mater at my old high school gym.

I played volleyball all through middle school and high school for the Vinton William Byrd Terriers, so walking back into that gym with my own daughter to play volleyball was the most magical, nostalgic experience ever!

I had been joking with her all week about who I was going to cheer for. I mean, obviously, my small-town student-athlete heart is still with the Terriers.

But watching my girl represent her own school and community warms my heart. I am officially a mom of an Eagle athlete. So I cheer accordingly. 😂 And yes, I am even wearing Eagle swag now.

To say I'm proud and happy is an understatement.

I've seen her practice, attend camps, open gyms, and compete in travel ball the last couple years. She has worked for it and earned her spot on the team! And I look forward to this season watching them play.

From one athlete mom to another, enjoy every moment, y’all. Parenthood is pretty cool. ❤️

So personally, I don’t understand why some people move away. I think living here in the SML area is heaven on earth! The only “acceptable” reason to move away is to be closer to family. 😉 And that’s exactly what I was able to help my seller do.

She loved the area but understandably loved her grandkids more. And they lived in North Carolina.

She had already found a new construction house in North Carolina that she loved. So, while it was being built, we put her house here on the market.

I filmed a walkthrough video of her home that I had professionally edited. Then I launched a targeted ad strategy to get the most exposure possible on it.

It worked! Her video racked up 139,000 views.

We had showings and interest but didn’t find the right buyer to make an offer until only a few weeks before she needed to move.

I found a great buyer who, ironically, was looking to move HERE to be closer to their family. It was meant to be.

Both the buyer and the seller agreed to let me be the mediator and work them both through this buying/selling process.

It’s really cool when you get to help someone make such an important transition that gets them closer to their family. It’s even cooler when you get to help two sets of people do that in one transaction!

Congratulations to my seller on a new home in North Carolina, and congratulations to the buyer who can plant roots next to their family right here in town.

When you’re busy with kids’ sports, sometimes birthdays have to wait a few weeks! We’d been out of town for a volleyball tournament during my oldest’s birthday. So we had to pivot to a birthday celebration afterwards.

My “go to” cake baker (who is awesome) wasn't available for that weekend, so a friend recommended Sweet-Treats Bakery. 🎂

I looked at their website, immediately called Mary, and I gotta say, WOW! She was amazing!

Mary designed my daughter's cake just like she wanted. She was able to get it done last minute and even sent me a picture to make sure we loved it.

BONUS POINTS: She even delivered the cake to me! 🎉 That’s a huge deal for a busy mom.

I'm a little behind in posting, but I wanted to give a big shout out to congratulate my awesome clients, Katie & Jeremiah! 🎉 You both did a great job on getting your house ready, and it showed!

Katie’s dad is my go-to “guitar guy” at D.R. Music Center here in Vinton. So when Donnie’s daughter needed to sell her house, he gave her my number. We immediately hit it off and enjoyed lots of laughs throughout the whole process.

I recently put together a Broker’s Open House at Waters Edge to show off the 8 beautiful homes currently for sale in the neighborhood! One of those beautiful homes is my own listing, so I thought it would be a creative way to let other Realtors know about all the listings in Waters Edge right now!

My lender provided an amazing lunch at my listing from El Toreno here in town, and then everyone could tour the other homes for sale from there!

We had a GREAT turnout, and at least 40-50 Realtors came through my listing alone!

Broker’s Opens like this are a helpful way to get other professional eyes on your listing. Obviously, other Realtors have their own buyer clients who might be interested in a property, and it’s a great chance to get quality feedback on a listing.

Because when it comes to selling a home? I’m always going to do everything in my control to get the most exposure for my clients.

Sometimes that means jumping in the lake and filming a video that gets over 100K views. Sometimes that means spending my own money on a targeted ad strategy.
Sometimes that means organizing and hosting an event to get more feet in the door.

I’ve always loved softball. Growing up in Vinton, I remember my dad hitting softballs to me or playing catch every evening and my mom in the stands at every game.

Decades later, there’s something about fresh-cut grass, perfectly lined fields, and sunflower seeds in my cheeks that still makes me feel like a kid.

Nowadays, I’m lucky enough to do it all over again with my own daughter. And that’s really special.

I’m coaching the girls' 10U softball team again this year. So she gets me as “mom” and “coach.” I’m not really sure if she loves that. But I sure do 🙂. And I know my dad would, too.

We’ve got a few players returning from last year and she’s playing catcher and first base this season.

Ball season can get a little hectic. Practices and games can make the days long or the weekends feel jam-packed. But despite all that, it’s a real privilege to be able to coach these girls.

I’m a big believer that sports can teach you just as much about life as almost anything. It’s fun to watch these girls develop both their softball skills and their confidence.

And really special to be a small part of it all.

So chances are you’ll see kids out and about in their uniforms after a game around town. And if you do, be sure to give them a high-five or tell them how cool they look in their team colors. I bet it would make their day and feel pretty dang proud!
