Virginia law (HB 677/SB 402), effective July 1, 2026, prohibits insurers from refusing, canceling, or failing to renew coverage solely based on roof age if the roof is 15 years or newer. Additionally, insurers cannot deny coverage based on condition if an inspector certifies the roof has at least five years of remaining useful life.

The Franklin County Board of Supervisors approved an adjustment to the real estate tax rate at their April 21 meeting.

The real estate tax rate will increase from $0.43 to $0.47 per $100 of assessed value. The meals tax rate will remain at 4%, and all other tax rates will remain unchanged for the FY26–27 fiscal year.

The County’s full budget will be adopted at a future date. This timeline allows for the Commonwealth of Virginia to finalize its budget and provides the Board additional time to evaluate local fiscal priorities.
