Grant here again, and for this WRT in the City I'm at the Majestic Theater on King Street in Madison, one of my favorite music venues in the country. We're here for a Shoegaze/Britpop blowout with Ride and Charlatans UK. Ride's "Nowhere" was one of the best records of the Shoegaze era, and a staple of my listening for a very long time. When I found out Ride had reunited for touring and coming to Madison, I jumped. There's a lot to say about this band, and anyone who knows me knows that I love to talk about music. Don't get me started.
The Majestic is magnificent. It's our oldest theater, and has been around since 1906, when it opened as a venue for Vaudeville artists. Over time, it has seen the era of silent and sound movies, it was an adult theater for a bit, a dance club, and since 2007 it was revitalized as a live music venue, where I've seen many shows. It's just the right size, has great acoustics and sightlines, and everything I've seen there has been memorable. Madison's music scene has never been more vital, and the Majestic is a foundational part of that scene. If you haven't, go.
Also, the show was fantastic.
