There's something special about owning a home.

We pour our hearts into them. We paint the walls, plant gardens, celebrate birthdays, welcome babies, and gather around the dinner table. Homes are a wonderful gift from God, and they become the backdrop for some of life's sweetest moments.

In recent years, God has reminded me that even the strongest homes were not meant to last forever. About two years ago we had our home treated for drywood termites. We had to move out for 3 days while a red and yellow tent covered the entirety of our 3 story home. We joked, "looks like the circus came to town". Funny, not funny.🎪 Then, about a year ago, the foundation of our home needed to be repaired which also resulted in a broken drain line under the house. Despite great upkeep and maintenance, even in a home that is well cared for, the effects of time and decay settle in.

We live in a broken world y'all! But there is good news. THIS IS NOT OUR FOREVER HOME!!! My greatest investment is not in brick and mortar - it's in the Kingdom of God.

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy...but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven." Matt 6:19-20

This verse feels more personal to me now as I strive to hold the things of this world a bit more loosely.

Dear Lord, may we enjoy the blessings you have given us without ever forgetting where our true home is.
