I was blessed to grow up in Hillsboro Shores - a subdivision in the northeast corner of Pompano Beach, FL. Big Diamond, the nickname for the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse, was less than 1,600’ (500 meters) east of my home. For two or three years in the late 1960’s, the assigned lighthousekeeper had a son who was one year younger than me, and I would ride my bicycle to the lighthouse station several t
imes each week so that we could play together. A few times, we were allowed to climb the stairs and explore the upper areas of the lighthouse. Once or twice, we got to “supervise” the Coast Guardsmen as they took weather readings or adjusted the LORAN navigation equipment. Once, we got to watch Steve Alaimo (a Miami-based musical celebrity) as he filmed some scenes for a movie on the grounds of the lighthouse station. So, it played a significant role in my formative years. Thus, as I now seek a name for my entrepreneurial endeavors, Big Diamond Enterprises strikes me as a great way to pay honor to this great landmark from my youth. Now, you may wonder WHAT on earth Big Diamond Enterprises DOES! Actually, it’s fairly simple.
