This is one of the first photos I took when I started in real estate.

In the first 5 years, 87% of agents fail.

When I started, my goal wasn’t big. It was simple: sell one house.
Just to prove to myself I could make it in this business.

Since then, I’ve sold around 50 homes.

And here’s the part people don’t always see…

Out of those 50, maybe 5 were people I personally knew.
Everyone else? Complete strangers who decided to trust me along the way.

I treated this like a full-time job from day one.
I showed up to the office 9–5.
I did everything; cold calling, handwritten letters, door knocking, flyers, open houses anything to get in front of people.

Real estate is hard.

It’s hard to hear “no” over and over again.
It’s hard to work with no guaranteed paycheck.
There were countless hours spent away from my family that never turned into a sale (clients who changed their minds, went a different direction, or didn’t buy at all).

Those hours don’t get refunded. They just… go.

And I get why so many people don’t make it.

But here’s what I’ve learned:

If you choose not to quit, you give yourself a real shot.

This business doesn’t require perfection , it requires persistence.
The ones who stay consistent, keep showing up, and keep pushing forward are the ones who make it.

Something everyone in their 20s should understand: people don’t just magically land in half-million-dollar homes.

Social media creates an illusion. What you usually don’t see is the starting point.

Most people begin in a starter home.

We bought ours in 2020. At the time, we were paying $1,200/month in rent (pre-COVID prices 😅), and the goal wasn’t “build equity” it was simply to stop renting and have something of our own.

That home did exactly what it was supposed to do.

As life grew, so did our needs. We decided to keep that home as a rental and move into something bigger.

6 years later that same home has doubled in value.

When we eventually sell, we’ll walk away with significant equity that helps fund the next step (hopefully a beach house 👀).

The point is this:
Stop letting social media convince you that everyone starts at the top.

Real estate is a long game.
Equity builds over time.
And that’s how people level up.

Your parents and grandparents used this exact strategy to build wealth and you can too.

Just a heads up… do *NOT* hire Alyson Calhoon, Realtor at KW Montgomery. The red flags are everywhere:

🚩 She answers her phone… like, all the time
🚩 She’ll hype you up *and* be honest about what actually makes sense
🚩 Gets way too invested in your home search (like it’s her own money on the line)
🚩 Notices things in houses you didn’t even think to look for
🚩 Negotiates like it’s personal
🚩 Somehow makes the process feel… easy?
🚩 Sends listings at random times because “this made me think of you”
🚩 Cares a little too much about getting you the best deal possible
🚩 Will probably become your go-to for anything house-related
🚩 You might actually enjoy buying or selling (which feels suspicious)

And the biggest red flag of all… 🚩🚩🚩

Mention upgrading, investing, relocating, or even “just browsing”… and she gets WAY too excited 🏡✨
