For 170 years, Taylor County has been built by the people who showed up.

Before the highways.

Before the technology.

Before most of the conveniences we take for granted today.

There are a lot of things that make Taylor County special, but at the heart of it all are the people, the stories, and the organizations that have helped shape this community for generations.

On June 27, the Taylor County Historical Society is bringing all of that together for a celebration of Taylor County's 170-year history as we also look ahead to America's 250th Anniversary.

This isn't just a history event. It's a community showcase.

You'll find local nonprofits, businesses, vendors, state and local agencies, educational exhibits, community groups, and plenty of opportunities to learn about the people and places that have made Taylor County what it is today.

There will be activities for children, interactive exhibits, local history displays, and something interesting around every corner. Whether your family has been here for generations or you're new to the area, it's a great opportunity to learn more about the community we call home.

I love events like this because they remind us that our history isn't just found in old photographs and museum displays. It's found in the people who show up, serve others, build businesses, volunteer their time, preserve our stories, and keep our small-town traditions alive.

Property rights matter.

Processes exist for a reason. They help organize development, establish standards, and protect the public.

But when a process designed to organize land starts being used as a tool to reduce rights that were otherwise allowed, people feel it in real life.

They feel it in delayed homes.
Delayed family plans.
Delayed opportunities.
Delayed futures.

Interesting that even Florida's Legislature recently recognized this principle in SB 1434, specifically prohibiting the subdivision process from being used to restrict development below otherwise authorized density and intensity.

Different facts. Different locations. Same principle:

Process should protect rights — not quietly reduce them.

NSPS - The National Society of Professional Surveyors Executive Director, Tim Burch, is running for Vice President of FIG - International Federation of Surveyors the International Federation of Surveyors.

Tim has spent his career championing surveyors at every level, from local chapters to global working groups. Tim listens, he shows up, and he gets things done.
