The City of Monticello is declaring a snow emergency, effective today (December 13) until Monday (December 15) at 7:00 am. Parking is prohibited on the designated routes below to allow for snow removal.

Residents and visitors should remove their vehicles from these routes so city staff can safely work.

Snow routes are:

-Marion St., from Piatt St. to Allerton Rd.
-Center St., from Market St. to Buchanan St.
-Buchanan St., from Center St. to Marion St.
-Kratz Rd., from Market St. to Hillside Dr.
-Charter St., both sides, between Livingston St. and Lafayette St.
-State St., both sides, between Livingston St. and Lafayette St.
-Main St., both sides, between Market St. and Independence St.

With dangerously cold temperatures expected here are a few important reminders to help protect your home—and each other:

🏠 Protect your home
• Let faucets drip slightly to help prevent frozen pipes
• Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate
• Keep your thermostat set consistently, even overnight
• Disconnect outdoor hoses and keep garage doors closed

🐾 Don’t forget pets
• Bring pets indoors or be sure they have warm, dry shelter
• Check water bowls often so they don’t freeze
• Wipe paws after walks to remove ice melt and salt

🤝 Check on neighbors
• Especially seniors, those living alone, or anyone who may need help
• A quick call, text, or knock can make a big difference
