Sometimes your the windshield, sometimes your the bug. Today trying to reach a property corner, while wearing chest waders, I tried to cross a drainage ditch in a sod farm. I made it about 2/3 the way across and got so stuck in the thick black muck I could no longer move. My partner actually had to pull me out with the truck. Sometimes being a surveyor is hard.

Mason holding a 1903 drag tooth and stones set by Elmer Joslin, CS of Shiawassee County. The position was further perpetuated with a Harrison Marker and the pipe (complete with elbow), drag tooth and stones were placed back in the hole as a memorial.

Great day at Powell Land Surveying. With the assistance of the Clinton County backhoe we were able to find 3 old corners set by Clinton County surveyors from 1877 to 1891. These corners were further perpetuated by setting a standard Clinton County monument and their positions will become part of the public record at the register of deeds office.

My degree finally came in the mail today. I was so excited I hung it up along with my membership certificate for the Francis Crowe Engineering Honor Society in my office already.

Today was a good day for Powell Land Surveying. Me and Mason were working on the Clinton County Remonumentation Survey and we recovered 2 old historical corners. The first corner today was an old stone placed by the County Surveyor using the original GLO bearing trees. That means that position can be traced back to the original government Surveyor when he established the corner in the 1820’s. The second was a stone pile set by the County Surveyor in 1879. Both of these positions were perpetuated with a standard Clinton County monument and their positions will be recorded at the register of deeds office to be used by surveyors performing boundary surveys.

Summer is here which means I get my surveyor in training back. Mason started work this week and seems to have picked up right where he left off last summer. Over the past 3 days he has been operating the GPS unit and has been doing well operating the robotic total station. He will continue gaining real world working experience and I will get another summer working with my boy. Win-Win.
