A lot of people are asking what’s going on right now between MRED and Zillow, so here’s the simple version:

MRED (the MLS system most Realtors use in the Chicago area and surrounding markets) and Zillow are currently in a major dispute over how listings are displayed online. Because of that fight, Zillow has now lost access to a large number of listings from MRED.

What does that mean for consumers?

It means Zillow may NOT currently show all homes that are actually for sale in our area. Some listings may disappear, show incorrectly, or never appear there at all.

This is important because many buyers think Zillow shows “everything,” when in reality Zillow is a third-party advertising site, not the actual MLS Realtors use.

If you’re searching for homes right now, I’d strongly recommend also checking:
• Realtor.com
• Homes.com
• Your local Realtor’s website directly like ours remaxil.com

Or better yet, work directly with a Realtor who can set you up on the actual MLS search with real-time updates.

Bottom line:
The real estate market itself has NOT stopped. This is a data feed and policy dispute between companies, but it absolutely affects where buyers and sellers are seeing homes online right now.
