Still dry out in some places we manage...

Rainfall deficits are still being felt across much of the St. Johns River Water Management District.

As of Sept. 16, several counties remain more than 11 inches below normal rainfall over the past 12 months, with Baker County showing the largest deficit at 17.33 inches. Areas farther south are seeing smaller deficits, but much of the District is still drier than normal.

Even when we get afternoon storms, long-term rainfall deficits can take time to recover. That’s why water conservation continues to matter.

Still dry...

💧 Rainfall deficits continue across the District

While recent rainfall has brought some relief, much of the St. Johns River Water Management District continues to experience significant rainfall deficits.

Our latest 12-month rainfall data shows deficits ranging from less than an inch in Brevard County to nearly 20 inches in Baker County, with some of the largest deficits occurring across the northern portion of the District.

Still running fires here in Florida...

🌧️ We’re getting rain, but we’re not out of the drought yet.

Recent rainfall is helping, but the aquifer has not yet rebounded from months of below-average rainfall. In July, 5.17 inches of water was lost to evaporation and plant use, while 6.84 inches of rain fell, leaving little available to replenish groundwater.

The graphic shows the rainfall needed over the next three months, as of Aug. 5, to end extreme drought conditions.

It will take sustained, above-average rainfall to recover. 💧 Continued conservation remains important.

Lies!! There are plenty of resources...Same old crap every year as we sit idle and Cooperator resources with less training and experience than many of the private contractors that aren't worthless are brought in at 2 to 3 times our daily rates. Ra**ng tax payers while someone is getting their pockets lined with cash...Follow the $$$!!!

We’ve been seeing a lot of discussion online and in the news about the current fire season, and we want to take a moment to clear up some of the confusion.

The stories we’re seeing claim that there is a shortage of fire engines and wildland firefighting resources out here in the west. It’s an easy conclusion to jump to when looking at a fast moving fire season, but the reality on the ground is actually a logistics story, not a resource story.

The reality is, there are hundreds of private contract wildland fire crews and engines that are fully equipped, staffed, and sitting at home ready to deploy.

The shift to the federal VIPR system this year has faced significant backend technical delays. Because these preseason agreements are still sitting in the approval pipeline, many ready-and-willing local contractors cannot be dispatched to nearby incidents yet.

The wildland fire community is ready and waiting to support our federal and state agencies. Getting through the administrative red tape is the fastest way to get wheels on the dirt and extra boots on the line where they are needed most.
